Overview of the Cape Sea Grille

Located off the beaten path on Sea Street in Harwich Port, the Cape Sea Grille has a home in a 19th-century sea captain’s home. Chef and owner Douglas Ramler serves creative American cuisine using native seafood and fresh, local ingredients.

Besides the fine food, you can expect an upscale, elegant atmosphere with warm candlelight, white linen, and fresh flowers. Since it’s set up in a former sea captain’s home, the whole restaurant has an ocean feel.

The main dining room and bar dining room are both relaxing, and you get lovely views of the garden when you choose to dine outdoors. Or, you can sit at the bar to enjoy your drinks and meal.

    Accolades

The Cape Sea Grille has been awarded the best restaurant in a few categories by Cape Cod Life over the years. Some of these categories include best wine selection, romantic restaurant, fine dining, and seafood restaurant.

    The Cape Sea Grille’s Menus

Since Chef Ramler only uses fresh ingredients in his dishes, the Cape Sea Grille menus change with the seasons. However, some of the items are available more than once each year — such as asparagus bisque, crispy duck confit, shrimp and grits, local mussels, and lobster and scallop dishes.

In any case, we’ve put together some examples of what you might find on the menus so that you can understand the kind of quality that you’re getting when you eat here.

    Starters & Salads

Among the appetizers, you can expect creative bites such as housemade country pork pate, poutine, chilled summer gazpacho, fish tacos, and cornmeal-dusted calamari and crispy banana peppers.

Suppose you prefer a salad before your main dish. In that case, some options may include the Caesar salad with housemade dressing, mixed greens with a house balsamic vinaigrette, and warm braised and roasted winter vegetable salad. You could add scallops, shrimp, cod, or flat iron steak to your salad.

    Entrees & Shareable Plates

For entrees, the Cape Sea Grille always has some fantastic options. Some examples include orange and soy roasted chicken, lobster carbonara, meatloaf and mashed potatoes, horseradish breaded and roasted Atlantic swordfish, and seared duck breast with a tomato and foie gras tart.

Also, you can order shareable-sized side dishes, such as sauteed winter vegetables, truffle Asiago frites, rosemary-roasted garlic rice, and more.

    Desserts

When it comes to desserts, Chef Ramler really outdoes himself. The flourless chocolate cake may be served with whipped cream and raspberry puree or with layered espresso mousse and dark chocolate ganache.

A warm apple tart could come with caramel and vanilla ice cream, while a cardamon honey cheesecake with poached peaches and almond crust may be on the menu.

Then, there’s the petit vanilla bean creme brulee with a shortbread cookie or ginger creme brulee with tuile. Or, petit warm chocolate bread pudding with whipped cream. There might be a selection of sorbets, ice creams, and cookies on the menu too.

    Beer & Wine

If you enjoy having beer or wine with your meal, the Cape Sea Grille has an extensive selection, including domestic and international brands.

You can order beer and cider in bottles or cans, as well as pints from the tap. When it comes to wine, you can choose from rose, sparkling, white, red, and dessert wines.

    Cocktails & Martinis

Do you prefer cocktails or martinis? The Cape Sea Grille makes a variety of inventive drinks with imaginative names, such as the heaven scent, Caribbean teleporter, Mexican bus, debutante, perfect man, down comforter, and papyrus condor.

    Cape Sea Grille Dinner Reservations

The Cape Sea Grille, located just off Route 28 in Harwich Port, is open Wednesday through Saturday during suppertime hours, except for a month-long break in February. And, it can get pretty busy, especially on the weekends. That’s why it’s ideal to make reservations either online or by calling (508) 432-4745.

You can make reservations for the main dining room or the bar dining room. You choose which dining room ahead of time, and that’s where you’ll be seated when you arrive. Keep in mind that seating on the indoor porch is limited, so outdoor seating requests can’t be guaranteed.

If you don’t make a reservation and the dining rooms are busy, you could sit at the bar. Just bear in mind that the seats are first-come, first-served. On the other hand, you could order takeout, and enjoy your dinner in your room at Candleberry Inn.
