When you’re planning to escape with your partner for a romantic getaway in New England, it’s important to consider what activities and atmosphere are available. Fortunately, Cape Cod has something for everyone, and Cape Cod romantic getaways are the perfect way to enjoy one another’s company, no matter when you’re looking for a romantic rendezvous.
Cape Cod is a great place to get away from your everyday stress and spend some quality time with your partner. As soon as you cross the Cape Cod Canal, you begin to feel the relaxing atmosphere of the peninsula. At the same time, there are plenty of adventurous things to do on Cape Cod if you’re looking for a more active experience. Whether you and your partner prefer leisure or adventure, you can make your Cape Cod romantic getaway unforgettable with the following knowledge to help plan your trip.
The Best Time to Visit Romantic Cape Cod
Cape Cod is perfect for a romantic getaway in Massachusetts, no matter when you decide to visit.
From late spring through early fall, crowds flock to the Cape, frequenting the beaches and popular destinations, giving it a jovial and friendly atmosphere full of activity.
For a quieter stay, plan your romantic Cape Cod getaway in late fall through early spring. This is often considered the “off-season” on Cape Cod, and you may find lodging rates to be reduced and the population more sparse.
Even in the “off-season” the weather on the Cape remains mild and there are plenty of romantic things to do on Cape Cod in the winter months.
One of the Best Cape Cod Romantic Hotels
Having a peaceful, luxurious place to stay during Cape Cod romantic getaways offers the best experience. Located on historic Route 6A, Candleberry Inn bed and breakfast in Brewster is one of the best Cape Cod romantic hotels.
TripAdvisor has ranked Candleberry Inn Cape Cod Bed and Breakfast #1 in Brewster, #3 in the United States, and #8 in the world based on past guests’ experience and feedback.
Aside from our friendly hospitality and attention to detail, we have some of the most romantic rooms and luxurious suites. In the Main House, our Beach Rose Room, Breezing Up Room, The Highlands Room, and Seacroft Suite have gas or wood-burning fireplaces.
However, our romantic accommodations aren’t the only reason why we’re the best Cape Cod bed and breakfast. We offer a range of add-ons and romance packages to enhance your stay. For instance, we can put sweet treats in your room to have upon your arrival. You can even arrange to have a bottle of champagne or wine whenever you like.

Dinners at Romantic Restaurants Cape Cod Style
Cape Cod romantic getaways are incomplete without dinners at romantic Cape Cod restaurants. If you and your partner are foodies, then you’ll delight in all of the amazing options. In fact, the number of romantic restaurants Cape Cod has could be overwhelming for just one visit. It could take several trips to the peninsula to try them all. Here’s a look at a few of our top picks:
C Salt Wine Bar & Grille
Located in Falmouth, the C Salt Wine Bar & Grille is a fine-dining restaurant that serves internationally inspired fare using American ingredients and French techniques. The wine list is extensive, and the bar menu features seasonal craft beverages.
Bleu in Mashpee is a French bistro. If you’ve ever been to France, you’ll feel like you’ve returned because the food is so excellent. Executive Chef Frederic Feufeu is a Loire Valley native and puts an innovative twist on classic bistro dishes. Everything is plated with care and impressive presentation, and you couldn’t ask for a more romantic atmosphere.
The Ocean House Restaurant
At The Ocean House Restaurant in Dennis Port, you can expect American fare with Pan-Asian flair. The fish and chips, for instance, is encrusted with Cape Cod Potato Chips. If you have dietary restrictions, the menu clearly marks allergens and which dishes are gluten free and vegetarian. This beachside restaurant and bar boasts brilliant views of Nantucket Sound too.
In Brewster, Spinnaker is a boutique chic restaurant that specializes in seafood dishes. The menu is always changing based on seasonal produce and herbs, but it always features the daily catch. The wine list has a good selection of wines from around the world as well.
Featuring breathtaking views of Cape Cod Bay, Ceraldi serves seven-course meals in Wellfleet. Chef Michael prepares locally sourced dishes that take you on a culinary journey. The dinners are accompanied by house-crafted soft beverages and curated reserve wine pairings.
Cape Cod Summer Romantic Activities
Romantic lodging and restaurants are two important parts of making Cape Cod romantic getaways memorable. But you wouldn’t have an unforgettable experience without romantic things to do on Cape Cod. Below, you’ll find an array of activities available on the peninsula during summer, winter, and at any time of year.
Going to a Cape Cod beach can be fun, relaxing, and romantic at the same time. Maybe you want to swim, or maybe you just want to sunbathe or search the sand for shells. It’s easy to spend several hours or even the whole day at one of Cape Cod’s numerous beautiful beaches.
Although you can find swimmable beaches along the entire 600-mile Cape Cod coastline, here are eight of our favorites:
- Old Silver Beach in Falmouth
- Town Neck Beach in Sandwich
- Crosby Landing Beach in Brewster
- Nauset Beach in Orleans
- Coast Guard Beach in Eastham
- Marconi Beach in Wellfleet
- Head of the Meadow in Truro
- Race Point Beach in Provincetown
If you really enjoy being in the water, hop on a whale watching cruise to the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary. This protected area is where whales go to feed between mid-April and the end of October. You have the chance to see finback, humpback, minke, pilot, and right whale species surface as they eat. You’ll see various waterfowl and possibly dolphins and seals too.
Two of the most popular whale watching companies are Dolphin Fleet Whale Watch in Provincetown and Hyannis Whale Watcher Cruises in Barnstable. However, there are a few others. For more information, check out our Cape Cod whale watching guide.
Cape Cod Lavender Farm
For a slower-paced activity, consider strolling around the Cape Cod Lavender Farm. This Harwich farm is located on 20 acres that overlook Island Pond. With more than 14,000 lavender plants, it’s one of the most romantic things to do in Cape Cod. While you can visit anytime between March and December, the best time is June to mid-July — the peak bloom and color season. You can purchase an assortment of lavender products before you leave.
Romantic Things to Do in Cape Cod in Winter
Coffee, Tea, & Hot Chocolate
One of the most romantic things to do during the winter months, is bundle up with your partner while sipping on a hot beverage. Snowy Owl Coffee Roasters in Brewster is one of the best coffee shops on the peninsula, and it serves coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. Some other great places for a hot beverage while you explore Cape Cod include Coffee Obsession in Falmouth, Old King’s Coffeehouse in West Yarmouth, Hot Chocolate Sparrow in Orleans, and 361 Coffee & Espresso Bar in Provincetown.
Winter is synonymous with the holidays, so it’s no surprise that we recommend joining the holiday celebrations around the Cape, many of which last the entire month of December. Chatham kicks off the season with the Christmas Stroll downtown, Falmouth has a Christmas Parade, and Provincetown has a ceremony for lighting the Lobster Pot Tree. Additionally, Brewster plans a tree lighting ceremony, artisan festivals, and a holiday concert.
For even more holiday cheer, head to Heritage Museums & Gardens in Sandwich for the Gardens Aglow event. Every December, the extensive gardens turn into a winter wonderland with a huge holiday lights display. The event includes holiday treats and drinks, games, marshmallow roasting, music, and a reindeer scavenger hunt. It’s truly a festive celebration that makes Cape Cod romantic getaways unforgettable.
Romantic Cape Cod Activities for Any Season
Hiking, Biking, Sunsets, & Lighthouses
Enjoying nature can be very romantic when you do it within the Cape Cod National Seashore. This protected land has about 40 miles of beaches, hiking trails, bike paths, and lighthouses. You and your partner can catch some magical sunsets as you explore. Race Point Beach in Provincetown, Great Island Trail in Wellfleet, and Nauset Lighthouse in Eastham are some of our preferred paths and places.
More of these romantic things to do in Cape Cod are available outside of the Cape Cod National Seashore. The Mass Audubon Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is a 1,100-acre sanctuary with its own hiking and walking trails, sandy beaches, and wildlife watching opportunities. Nickerson State Park is a 1,900-acre park with several ponds, inland beaches, miles of hiking and biking trails, and a campground. Since the Cape Cod Rail Trail stretches across seven beach towns, it offers a lot of chances to make Cape Cod romantic getaways remarkable.
Museums, Gardens & Historic Sites
It might not sound romantic to tour museums and historic sites on Cape Cod, but it can be when you choose the right places. Walking through the Crosby Mansion in Brewster or the Edward Gorey House in Yarmouth Port transports you to another time. In addition to the Gardens Aglow event, the Heritage Museums and Gardens is an enchanting place to go at other times of the year. The Highfield Hall and Gardens in Falmouth is similar, offering nature walks and guided tours through beautiful gardens.
Wine & Beer Tastings
Touring the peninsula to taste beer and wine is another way to make Cape Cod romantic getaways memorable. Cape Cod Winery in Falmouth, First Crush Winery in Harwich, and Truro Vineyards in Truro create some of the finest wines. You can tour the vineyards and facilities as well as have a romantic wine tasting. The Cape has breweries that offer tours and tastings too. Cape Cod Beer in Hyannis is one of the most popular, but you could also explore Hog Island Beer Co. in Orleans.
There’s nothing like seeing the peninsula from the air. Although there aren’t any Cape Cod helicopter tour companies, Stick’n Rudder Aero Tours in Chatham offers tours in a classic Waco biplane. The plane flies over a variety of places, and you can choose the duration of your flight.
Since Cape Cod is a peninsula, many companies offer boat tours around its harbors, bays, and the Atlantic Ocean. From Orleans, Blue Claw Boat Tours offers assorted cruises for seal watching, sunsets, fall colors, and more. Barnstable Harbor Ecotours takes you on a two-hour, pontoon boat tour of the harbor. From Hyannis, Bay Spirit Tours features historic lighthouse, sailing, music, and sunset tours. These are only a few of the options available.
Island Day Trips
Taking day trips to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Island are other romantic things to do in Cape Cod. You can ride the Island Queen ferry from Falmouth to Martha’s Vineyard in about 35 minutes. From Hyannis, you can reach Nantucket Island in about 1 hour on the M/V Iyanough. Both of these islands have so much to offer that you’ll need more than one romantic couples getaway to do them all.
