When to Plan Your Honeymoon on Cape Cod

The best time to visit Cape Cod for a honeymoon depends on your preference and what you want to experience. If you prefer to avoid crowds and don’t plan to participate in summer activities, then the offseasons in spring or fall are perfect. If you enjoy being out in the sun, love things in full swing and don’t mind some crowds, then the summer works for you.

Don’t rule out a Cape Cod honeymoon in winter, though. Despite the cold weather, some attractions and towns across the Cape host amazing holiday celebrations that are rather romantic. For instance, Brewster hosts a December month-long holiday celebration with a tree lighting ceremony, a holiday concert, and local artisan festivals; Cape Cod Central Railroad has a Polar Express train ride; and First Night celebrations are held in Sandwich, Chatham, and Provincetown for New Year’s. And a walk on a winter beach followed by a cup of Italian hot chocolate near a fireplace in your guest room sounds very romantic!

Romantic Honeymoon Activities to Do on Cape Cod

    Visit a Cape Cod Winery

One of the most romantic Cape Cod honeymoon ideas is to visit a winery, and there are several to choose from. You can enjoy each other’s company at Truro Vineyards while taking a vineyard tour and tasting the wines. In Harwich, First Crush Winery uses fruit grown in the finest regions of Northern California to create wines.

And at Cape Cod Winery, you can relax with a glass of wine from one of its more than nine varieties.

    Get a Couples Massage

Nothing says romantic relaxation more than getting a couples massage during your Cape Cod honeymoon. At Candleberry Inn, you don’t have to leave your room. Just ask us to add the massage service to your reservation, and we’ll make all of the arrangements for you. You can choose from a 60-minute session or a 90-minute session with licensed massage therapists. Alternatively, we can refer you to several nearby spas.

    Walk the Beach at Sunset

Visiting any beach on the peninsula during sunset and low tide is a great way to spend time together on your honeymoon getaway. In Brewster alone, there are eight beaches on Cape Cod Bay, including Paine’s Creek Beach, Breakwater Beach, and Point of Rocks Landing Beach.

During low tide and sunset at these beaches, you can experience the Brewster Flats where the receding ocean water reveals a sandbar, tidal pools, and clam beds. The town has some inland beaches too, including a 6-mile beach along Long Pond.

Enjoy Dinner and a Live Show on Cape Cod

Eating dinner and seeing a live show sounds like a romantic night that you can do at home. During your honeymoon in Cape Cod, though, it’s an experience.

The Cape has many restaurants that offer romantic dining experiences. Spinnaker in Brewster is within walking distance of Candleberry Inn and serves creative Mediterranean-inspired dishes. Bleu restaurant in Mashpee is a French bistro that serves contemporary cuisine, and Ceraldi in Wellfleet is a waterfront restaurant that serves seven-course meals. You’ll find more restaurant options here.

For a live show, Cape Cod has several well-established theatres. Cape Rep Theatre in Brewster performs four or five indoor plays and musicals between May and December. In Orleans, Elements Theatre Company performs two to four shows per annum. You could also catch a show at The Cape Playhouse or a film at Cape Cinema in Dennis.

Take a Cape Cod Haunted Tour

If you’re looking for a unique Cape Cod honeymoon experience that brings you and your spouse together, join Cape Cod’s Haunted & History Tour Co. It operates haunted tours in October and November from Barnstable Village, which isn’t far from Candleberry Inn. The two-hour tour includes more than 10 stops, while there’s a three-hour ghost hunting tour as well.

    Visit Gardens Aglow in Sandwich

While celebrating the holidays during your winter honeymoon Cape Cod experience, bundling up under a huge display of holiday lights at Gardens Aglow in Sandwich is very romantic. The event is hosted by the Heritage Museums & Gardens and includes marshmallow roasting, a reindeer scavenger hunt, games and music, and festive treats and drinks.

Fun Things to Do on Your Cape Cod Honeymoon

Sunbathe and Swim at the Beach

On a summer honeymoon on Cape Cod, spending the day playing and sunbathing on the beach is a lot of fun. The peninsula has no shortage of swimmable beaches along Cape Cod Bay, the Nantucket Sound, or Atlantic Ocean. There are several inland ponds and lakes where you can go swimming too — such as those in Nickerson State Park in Brewster.

Go Whale Watching on Cape Cod

A significant whale population migrates north to the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary north of Cape Cod Bay from mid-April to the end of October. If you’re here for your Cape Cod honeymoon, it’s the perfect opportunity to see several types of whales — humpback, finback, pilot, right, and minke. You’re likely to see dolphins, seals, waterfowl, and more too.

Some of the best whale watching cruise companies on the peninsula include Hyannis Whale Watcher Cruises in Barnstable and SeaSalt Charters and Dolphin Fleet Whale Watch in Provincetown. You can learn everything possible about whale watching on Cape Cod here.

Take a Boat Tour of Cape Cod

If you just want to tour the Cape and surrounding waters, you can take a boat ride. Blue Claw Boat Tours in Orleans offers seal watch, autumn bay, sunset, and other cruises of various lengths. Barnstable Harbor Ecotours operates two-hour guided tours on a pontoon boat.

In Hyannis, Bay Spirit Tours has lighthouse, sunset, music, and sailing cruises and tours of the local harbor and Lewis Bay. With Cape Sailing Charters in Chatham, you can board a 38-foot ketch in Stage Harbor and sail the Nantucket Sound.

Tour Cape Cod From Above or Go Skydiving

For a bird’s-eye view of Cape Cod during your honeymoon, Stick’n Rudder Aero Tours in Chatham offers sightseeing tours in its two-passenger classic Waco biplane. You may choose your flight’s duration times and can fly over main streets, back roads, beaches, National Seashore, and more.

If you and your new spouse want to be more adventurous, you can go skydiving with Skydive the Mills. The company operates out of the Cape Cod Airfield in Barnstable. The drop zone gives you a spectacular view of the Cape, islands, and Boston skyline.

Explore the Cape Cod National Seashore

To enjoy nature and the great outdoors on your honeymoon in Cape Cod, explore the Cape Cod National Seashore. It has 40 miles of pristine beach, several lighthouses and hiking trails, three biking trails, and more.

Where to Go for Cape Cod Honeymoon Day Trips

    Provincetown

A day trip can spice up your honeymoon on Cape Cod, and Provincetown is one of the best destinations with a scenic drive. It’s the oldest art colony in the area and has multiple galleries. The Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum commemorate and educate about the arrival of the Mayflower Pilgrims and more. At Race Point Beach, you can walk in the sand and stop by Race Point Lighthouse.

Don’t forget to explore Commercial Street while you’re there. It’s the town’s most charming street and is filled with attractions, restaurants, shops, landmarks, fun nightlife, and more.

    Martha’s Vineyard

Visiting Martha’s Vineyard can supplement your Cape Cod honeymoon with more activities. This small island is located on the southwest side of the Cape. It has the East Chop Lighthouse, Edgartown Lighthouse, boutique shops, and biplane tours at Katama Airfield. For meals, consider Chesca’s Restaurant for fine Italian fare or l’etoile restaurant for French-inspired cuisine.

    Nantucket

Another romantic island for a day trip is Nantucket, which is located on the southeast side of the Cape. It has a charming downtown area with cobblestone streets, wonderful restaurants, and small boutiques. You can rent bikes and explore several beaches — Surfside Beach, Dionis Beach, and Brant Point Beach. If you visit between May and October, you could go sailing.
