4 of the Best Places for Freshwater Fishing on Cape Cod

1. Cliff Pond

Located in Nickerson State Park moments away from Candleberry Inn, Cliff Pond is one of the best spots for freshwater fishing on Cape Cod. This pond is known for being one of the most heavily stocked with trout in the area. Cast your line to reel in reel in brook, brown, and rainbow trout from either the shore or small boat! If you are really looking to catch some of these beauties, we recommend fishing from a boat because the fish are usually located at depths of 30 to 40 feet.

2. Flax Pond

Flax Pond is also located in Nickerson State Park. This 49-acre pond is stocked each spring and fall with varieties of state-raised trout just waiting to be caught! When you cast your line, you’ll most likely hook brook, brown, and rainbow trout, but other species may be discovered such as smallmouth bass. The easiest way to fish here is from the beach area, but you may launch canoes if you can carry them down the steep slope to the shore.

3. Higgins Pond

Another favorite Nickerson State Park fishing spot is Higgins Pond. It is also stocked with rainbow trout, brook trout, and tiger trout. Experts have found that fly fishing is the best option for this pond, although hardware like small spoons and spinners have been successful as well.

4. Baker Pond

Baker Pond is right on the border of the Brewster and Orleans line. It is stocked with a variety of trout each spring and fall to ensure successful freshwater fishing on Cape Cod. This is also a popular place to catch bass! If you’re fishing during the summer, we recommend depths of 20-35 feet because the fish will be looking for cooler waters in the hot sun.
