7 Places to Visit on a Cape Cod Day Trip
Located in Sandwich, MA, the Heritage Museums and Gardens are a very popular attraction here in the Cape. Enjoy a leisurely self-guided tour throughout the many art galleries and spectacular gardens. Stroll past the Old East Windmill, wind your way through the seven-layer labyrinth, or admire the unique automobile gallery. You can also sign up for a guided tour if you call three weeks in advance!
Plymouth Plantation is located about 50 minutes away from Candleberry Inn, making it the perfect Cape Cod day trip during your stay. It’s always rewarding to learn something new when you’re on vacation, and this is a great place to do so. It will feel as if you are stepping back in time when you walk through this living museum. The recreated buildings of the settlement and actors in traditional Pilgrim dress will teach you everything you need to know about the Plymouth Colony!
Sometimes, the best way to get a taste of an area is to taste the wine! Cape Cod Winery is located in East Falmouth, a little less than an hour away from Candleberry Inn. You’ll love their fruity wines, each flavored with the Cape in mind. Choose to sample 5 or 8 wines, then enjoy your favorite while you relax on their patio! We recommend getting a bottle or two of your favorites so you can pop one open during your stay at Candleberry Inn or back home to remember your trip by.
You have never seen anything like the Edward Gorey House! The dark works of the late Edward Gorey have captivated audiences for years, one of his most famous being The Gashlycrumb Tinies. Now, you can walk through his 200-year-old sea captain’s home that has been preserved in honor of him. What’s so unique about it? He had filled its walls with original artwork from 1979 until his death in 2000! It’s the perfect rainy day activity.
5. Shining Sea Bikeway
Your Cape Cod day trip wouldn’t be incomplete without a bicycle ride. In spring and summer, the Cape is full of cyclists enjoying the gorgeous beaches, peaceful marshes, and other nature trails. The Shining Sea Bikeway is a favorite destination, stretching 10 miles along an old railroad while hugging the coast. Travel by cranberry bogs, through the Sippewissett Marsh, and alongside Chapaquoit Beach. You will love the beautiful nature that you encounter along this journey!
The Cape Cod National Seashore is full of things to fill your day with! This area is full of New England charm and heritage. Go on ranger guided tours to learn about the area. They will take you hiking through sand dunes, past kettle ponds, and more. Or, you can opt for a canoeing adventure! No matter what you decide to do, it is a great way to see the Cape.
7. Nauset Light
Cape Cod is known for its amazing lighthouses, including but not limited to the Race Point Light, Chatham Light, and Nauset Light. Nauset Light is unsurprisingly located on Nauset Beach and is a cast iron plate shell lined with bricks and standing at 48 feet tall. The surrounding landscape really makes the historic site worth a stop on your Cape Cod day trip. Enjoy sand on one side and lush underbrush on the other! Bring your camera; this is a sight you will want to remember forever.
