5 Must-Dos on Your Cape Cod Day Trip
The Heritage Museums and Gardens in Sandwich, MA, are very popular attractions on the Cape. Enjoy a self-guided tour throughout the art galleries and spectacular gardens. Stroll past the Old East Windmill, wind your way through the seven-layer labyrinth, or admire the unique automobile gallery. You can also sign up for a guided tour if you call three weeks in advance!
Plymouth Plantation is about 50-minutes away from Candleberry Inn, making it the perfect trip during your stay. It’s always rewarding to learn something new when you’re on vacation, and this is a great place to do so. Step back in time with the recreated buildings of the settlement and watch as actors in traditional Pilgrim dress teach you everything you need to know about the Plymouth Colony! For history buffs visiting the Cape, consider taking a day trip to Nantucket, where you can visit the Whaling Museum and learn about how whaling turned this seaport town into a popular tourist destination.
Sometimes, the best way to get a taste of an area is to taste the wine. Cape Cod Winery is in East Falmouth, a little less than an hour away from Candleberry Inn. Be sure to stop for a mini-trip to Hyannis on your way there or back— it’s the halfway point between Brewster and East Falmouth. You’ll love the wine with each varietal is flavored with the Cape in mind. Choose to sample five or eight wines, then enjoy your favorite on the patio! We recommend taking home a bottle or two of your favorites!
4. Shining Sea Bikeway
Your Cape Cod day trip would be incomplete without a bicycle ride. During the warm months, the Cape is full of cyclists enjoying the picturesque beaches, peaceful marshes, and other nature trails. Stretching 10 miles along an old railroad and hugging the coast, the Shining Sea Bikeway is a fan-favorite. Travel by cranberry bogs through the Sippewissett Marsh and alongside Chapoquoit Beach. The nature sights, sounds, and smells you’ll experience during your ride will permeate all your senses with the best of Cape Cod.
The Cape Cod National Seashore has tons of things to fill your day with! This area is full of New England charm and heritage. Go on ranger-guided tours to learn about the area. They will take you hiking through sand dunes, past kettle ponds, and more. Or, you can opt for a canoeing adventure! No matter what you decide to do, it is a great way to see the Cape. Consider a day trip to Martha’s Vineyard if you enjoy seashore towns with history and outdoor activities. This is a great option for guests staying with us for more than a couple of days.
Relax at Candleberry Inn
There’s no better way to end any trip, but especially a packed Cape Cod day trip, than with some pick-me-up ice cream at the Brewster General Store. Walk one minute south down Main Street with a waffle cone in hand and arrive at our inn. We recommend the Breezing Up Room for the ultimate end to a fun and relaxing day on the Cape, or any day trip of your choice! Stay in our most popular room and cozy up by the fireplace.
