About the Cape Cod Baseball League
The Cape Cod Baseball League has been the premier amateur baseball league in the United States since its inception in 1885. It currently features a 44-game regular season, action-packed postseason, and championship series. There is also an all-star game with key players from the season. The league has some impressive statistics. For example, it boasts over 1,100 all-time alumni performing at all levels of professional baseball in 2015. There is even a Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame exhibit at the JFK Museum in Hyannis! Those numbers can’t be read without seeing the many faces of stars rise from the league to important positions on MLB and other professional teams.
Cape Cod Baseball League Teams
Cape Cod is a small, brotherly community. However, when it comes to baseball, rivalries began to form between towns of the Cape. Though, we tend to see them more as friendly rivalries with a love for baseball at the center. Candleberry Inn supports our town of Brewster and our team, the Brewster Whitecaps. Other towns who participate in the league are: Bourne, Chatham, Cotuit, Falmouth, Harwich, Hyannis, Orleans, Wareham, and Yarmouth-Dennis.
Cape Cod Baseball League Alumni
Recognized as the best summer amateur league in the country, scouts and college coaches are on the lookout for key players. And we have some good ones! In the past, there have been many all-stars to rise the ranks up to the Major League. In fact, 292 former Cape Cod Baseball Leaguers have populated Major League rosters. These players include names such as Red Rolfe, Thurman Munson, Frank Thomas, Jeff Bagwell, and Craig Baggio. Jacoby Ellsbury of the New York Yankees and former Cy Young Award winner Barry Zito have also made it big. From Brewster, we have standout players such as Billy Wagner, while New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi came from Cotuit.
